VP Containers Panels & Borders

Post by PointsWell »

I am building a dashboard to my application and have come across a challenge.

If I put items into a Content Panel I can put a border around it like this:
Panel With Border
Panel With Border

Title of the Panel is Forward Pipeline and the border goes round the outside.

However if I have a more complex pair of items (such as FX Pairs and an FX Graph) which are conceptually related I need to put two Content Panels within a Panel Container, by default though I am unable to bound them with a border or a common title:
2 Related Panels but no Border
2 Related Panels but no Border

Is there a way to generate that border for the Panel Container and apply a single title for it?

I assume you are using a responsive nested grid?
You could try adding a container and within that container put a panel that spans the full width(12) and in the panel put the title you want for FX pair and FX Graph
Below that add another container with two panels(each set to 6) set up to be side by side and add your graphs one in each panel.
That should allow you to have a border around each graph and the title should look like it is for both graphs.
Set the top border for each of the panels to the look you are going for.

Hope this helps!

What I ended up doing was creating the two panels grid and graph with a zero inner border on the right and left to make them both butt against each other internally - that at least made it look like they were the same element.

I can't find a satisfactory method to deal with the title though. The title for all the other elements is within the border and I'd rather not create double the number of elements by moving all the titles outside the border (though that is probably what I am going to have to do :(

If your panels are with a container can you put a border around the container?
Or does the responsive nest grid allow you to have a container with a main panel and two child panels underneath that then you could have your title in the parent panel and still have a border around each child panel?

See if the Sales Portal demo gives you any idea's That is a great example of a multi-panel layout

The challenge is that Panel Containers don't have the same attributes as Content Panels.

I am not suitable across HTML conventions to know whether this is an AIM issue or a constraint of HTML.

See images for comparison:

Panel Container does not.

And the minute you put a panel inside another it immediately changes to Panel Container (and doesn't seem to revert if you remove the Content Panel later)

Can't you put the two content panels in a parent content panel?
I think the sales portal has an example of this.

Unfortunately the minute you put a content panel inside another content panel the would be parent immediately converts to a Panel Container and the attributes disappear.

I tried to fake it out by setting up the would be parent Content Panel the way I wanted it and then moving the child panel in, but AIM strips out all the necessary Content Panel settings.

The Sales Portal doesn't use grouped borders or titles in it although it does have lots of nested sections.

Unfortunately I will be in an interstate moving truck on the 2nd April. Just couldn't make the dates work this year annoyingly.
