It's definitely not an Aware IM problem. Aware IM sends the proper file with the .doc extension to the browser. I have the same issue on my Vista machine. Exactly the same Aware IM version works fine on the XP machine elsewhere. So, some of the solutions suggested in this thread probably explain it.
