Yep you are right, it doesn't work in runtime, only displays in Config tool for me.
I have analyzed the network traffic, and the image in question is not even being requested when loading the form.

Works for me.
Version 8.8 (Build 3123). Exact same file path that you are using except for the business space name.
Renders fine in Config Tool.

I don't see how a web hosting service for $4/month would work. I doubt they would let you install the AwareIM application on a shared web hosting service. You will probably only have access to the web root folder via FTP and a MySQL database which is the standard when it comes to web hosting. Tomcat...
