Newbie Question - MySQL vs Derby

Post by johnaohman »

Sorry for the elementary question - but what better way to learn .. ..

I know AwareIM comes with IBM Derby as a database, and I also know that you can install AwareIM and have it use MySQL instead if you configure it properly.

The question I have is what is the relative advantage of using MySQL vs Derby. It seems that MySQL is "all the rage" in many internet applications and I'm just not sure what advantages is brings as the backend for AwareIM as opposed to Derby? :?:

John,

One small but significant advantage to MySql has to do with searches.

MySql does searches that are NOT case sensitive while Derby IS case senstitive.
