Hosting a webpage on awareIM provided web server

Post by avatar69 »

I am hosting my awareIM application on a Windows 2003 VPS. This means that after a lot of hooplah, and disabling of services and "easy made applications" like Plesk, I have cca. 400K of memory for awareIM to run.

This should be OK I hope.

I now have a problem: since I have shut down the web server from windows 2003 in order to save memory, my home page is no longer viewable.

Question: Is there any way of adding an index.html file (plus associated files) to somewhere in the AwareIM installation (and where?) so that when someone types in their browser "www.mywebsite.com" they can be taken to a friendly welcome page, which then links into the different awareIM login options.

At the moment, people have to go to something like http://www.mywebsite.com:8080/AwareIM/l ... n=whatever.....

Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks to all, and I apologise if this is explained somewhere else and I am not seeing it.

You can get Tomcat to serve your static pages. For example, file library_startup.jsp, the home page of the Library sample application, is located in AwareIM\Tomcat\webapps\AwareIM and is accessible on the local computer via URL http://localhost:8080/AwareIM/library_startup.jsp

You also need to check with the company where your domain is registered to see if they provide redirection services where you can nominate the URL with your static page for your domain name.
